Wisdom Tooth Extractions Phoenix

Giving Your Teeth Room to Breathe

As a common “rite of passage” for many older teens and young adults, wisdom tooth extractions in Phoenix are commonly performed to create ample space inside the mouth. Since these third molars are no longer necessary, they only create problems for most patients, resulting in painful impaction or partial eruption that can lead to poor oral health. Dr. Tran can carefully remove these teeth so that the rest of your smile remains healthy over the years. Let us know if we can help by calling our office to schedule an appointment.

The Wisdom Tooth Process

There are two types of wisdom tooth extraction: simple and surgical. The removal process generally takes 45 minutes or less, but this timeframe can vary from patient to patient.

To start, you will be given local anesthesia to numb your mouth. If your wisdom teeth have partially erupted, they may be removed with the help of specialized dental instruments such as a dental elevator and dental forceps. By lifting the tooth from its socket, the forceps can be used to move it gently back and forth until it completely detaches.

If the wisdom teeth are impacted, which means they’re below the gumline, a small incision will be used to expose the underlying bone. Dr. Tran may divide a tooth into sections so that the extraction is easier and more conservative.

After cleaning the sockets to avoid infection, Dr. Tran will close the gums before placing gauze over the area(s) to help control any bleeding and encourage clot formation.
